After five months of quarantine (aka staying at home and not going anywhere), we needed a break. But where to go? We didn't want to eat in restaurants or stay at a hotel. We certainly couldn't fly anywhere. Most places (even within the US) had a quarantine policy where you had to quarantine for 14 days once you got there.
That's when John came up with the idea of renting a cabin in Broken Bow, OK. We could drive there in several hours and without having to stop for the bathroom. We could bring all our own food so we wouldn't have to go to restaurants or the grocery store. It was perfect! And, we'd never been there.
We loaded up the truck and headed out. We brought everything! Salt and pepper, just in case. Paper products, anything we thought we'd need.
The drive out there was pretty nice. We drove through Bonham, Paris and several other small towns before crossing the border into Oklahoma. We got to the cabin about 3 on a Friday.
It was pretty swanky. Our cabin name was "Just A Swingin'". All the cabins out there had cutsie names. I liked the little swing under the staircase. I sat out there for a bit. But not too long. It was July and it was hot! Those stairs were rough. They were kind of steep and we had to bring in all of our stuff so after about the fourth trip, I was feeling them.

Resting after unloading the car. The couch is right in front of the fireplace - which is decommissioned for the summer. Right above the fireplace and an awkward angle, is the television. You had to kind of lean back to watch it.
The fireplace was two-sided and it split the living room and bedroom (which was technically one giant room). This is the bedroom side. John had a nice reading spot over in the corner. That door leads out to the back porch.
The back porch had a hot tub and another fireplace.
In the yard was a fire pit that was kind of cool.
Broken Bow Lake. The lake covers 14,000 acres and was constructed in the '60's under the supervision of the Army Corps of Engineers.
The scenery out here is amazing.
We found a spot where the boat ramps are and hung out for a bit. There were people swimming nearby. Others were on jet skis.
At a completely different part of the lake was a swimming hole. This one had steam coming from it. I thought it looked kind of misty. There were people out there playing in the water. I didn't want to get too close to anyone.
Part of the spillway.
This is a view of the back porch of the cabin. There was a cool fire place out there that would be lovely in the winter.
One of our field trips out of the cabin was back to Broken Bow lake. There were several trails around so we picked one and went for a little hike.
John grilling our dinner...Earl Campbell sausages! Yum!
This was part of another group of cabins. I guessing (hoping) they aren't renting these out anymore as the door was hanging open and the grass around it was unmowed. It didn't look like it had any sort of plumbing....That would not be the cabin for me.
Overall, this was a nice little trip. The first trip we've made since the lockdown. I think this place is more fun if (1) you're a boat person and like to be on the lake and (2) there's no pandemic.
